A new year, a new start! I don’t know why but January 1st comes round and suddenly it feels like we can reinvent our whole lives….but we can’t any other time of the year?!
The truth is you can make a change in your life when ever you like, it dosn’t have to be at the stroke of midnight as Jan 1st rolls in. That being said, for me personally, as the new year unfolds like a blank canvas waiting to be filled with vibrant strokes of creativity and self-care, it's a time to reset, rejuvenate, and maybe even realign some personal growth goals. Let's explore how you can kickstart the new year to by embracing fresh creativity and prioritizing self-care.

Reflect on the past
Before diving into the new year, take a moment to reflect on the previous year. Celebrate your achievements, acknowledge your challenges, and learn from your experiences. This self-reflection not only helps you appreciate your growth but also provides valuable insights for the road ahead. If last year wasn’t great for you, that’s ok. Accept it for what it was and look forward to making the next year better.
Set Intentions, Not Just Resolutions
Instead of traditional resolutions that often fade away by February, consider setting intensions for the new year. Intentions focus on the journey rather than the destination, allowing room for flexibility and growth. Whether it's cultivating mindfulness, fostering creativity, or enhancing well-being, setting intentions aligns your actions with your values.
For me, my intension this year is to remind myself that my creativity is a journey of enjoyment not a chore. If I make a small business from it then great, but ultimately this year I want to:
- Develop my jewellery making skills and embrace all crafts
- Embrace a more creative day to day and narrative in life
- Take more care of my own mental load so i'm better equipped to look after those around me to

nurture your creativity
Creativity is a powerful force that resides within each of us. Cultivate it by exploring new hobbies, engaging in artistic endeavours, or simply taking a different route to work.
Attend workshops, read inspiring books, or surround yourself with creative individuals to fuel your imagination. Remember, creativity knows no bounds – let it flow in various aspects of your life.
Creative workshops and surrounding myself with more like minded creatives is definitely top of my list!
digital detox
In the age of constant connectivity, take intentional breaks from your digital devices. Unplug from social media, emails, and notifications to allow your mind to wander freely. This digital detox not only reduces stress but also provides the mental space needed for creative thoughts to flourish.
I stepped right away from social media over the Christmas period as I just couldn’t concentrate on my kids, work, trying to build a creative side hustle as well as thinking of things to post online to keep up momentum, when the truth is, I just wanted some me time.
And guess what, that’s ok!

create a self care routine
Prioritise self-care as a non-negotiable part of your daily routine. Something I really struggle to juggle with 2 small children, work and home life, however this year I know this needs to be top of the list for me as it has taken a back seat for to long.
Establishing self-care habits contributes to overall well-being, both mentally and physically. This could include regular exercise, even if just a short walk. They say adequate sleep is a must, unfortunately my 2 small kids hold the key to this one for me (someone have a word please!!) Nourishing meals - must stop raiding the kids snack cupboard! Last but by no means least, activities that bring you joy which for me, is more crafting and spending time with friends which often gets pushed to one side.
Design a routine that suits your lifestyle, ensuring that it becomes a sustainable and enjoyable practice.
Embrace Change and Adaptability
The new year is a canvas for change. Embrace it with open arms, understanding that growth often requires stepping outside your comfort zone which can be really scary at times - but also so rewarding.
Be adaptable to the twists and turns that life may bring, and view challenges as opportunities for personal and creative development.
to sum it all up...
As you step into the new year, remember that creativity and self-care are intertwined.
By nurturing your creativity, you enhance your well-being, and by prioritising self-care, you create the optimal environment for creativity to flourish.
Embrace the journey, set intentions, and allow the canvas of the new year to be filled with the colours of your personal and creative growth. Here's to a year filled with fresh perspectives, boundless creativity, and holistic self-care.
